"White Eagle" - Polish myth

National Independence Day is a public holiday in Poland celebrated every year on 11 November to commemorate the anniversary of Poland's assumption of independent statehood in 1918 after 123 years of partition. At that day we have more or less official events in our country and our school. At school we have more official event with drama, songs concert, school’s banner (presentation Independence Day). Moreover we have many lessons about Polish history, patriotism, myths, etc. Our pupils prepared pictures connected with myth “White Eagle” – it’s very popular myth about emerge of our country. Fold and cut out!

This is a decoration you can make from piece of paper and pair of scissors.  Long time ago when textiles and pictures were very, very expensive in Poland people made curtains in the windows from paper (you can see it at photo from heritage park) and pictures on the wall. But it was interesting decoration - sometimes with complicated pattern! Now it's heritage for us, something important from past. Try to fold delicate piece of paper and cut out shapes by scissors.

OUR PORTRAITS

First I took portrait photos of the pupils. Then using Word application I removed the colour so that the photos were in black and white. Then I printed the pictures off in A3 size. I distributed the photos out among the students so that they all had someone else's picture. The children then painted the pictures in water colours in the Impressionist style. This was all inspired by the work of Olga Bonanska.
